Whiteford Wins 80th District GOP Primary

Message of Being a Conservative, Credible Voice

for Allegan County Propels Whiteford to Victory

Allegan County – Tonight, as polling results were coming in, and it became more and more clear that Mary Whiteford would be the Republican Nominee for the 80th State House District in Michigan; celebration erupted at the Whiteford Victory Party at the Silo Banquet Hall in Allegan, MI. Now, with 67.5 percent of the precincts reporting, several news agencies have called the race with Whiteford leading in the polls with 50.36 % of the vote over her competitors.  She’s garnered nearly 4,000 votes.

Shortly after the announcement came at the Whiteford Victory Party, Mary Whiteford said, “I’d like to congratulate my opponents and their supporters on a hard-fought campaign. Let’s be clear, we agreed on issues more than we disagreed. I look forward to being a strong, credible, conservative voice for Allegan County and taking our message into the general election. I welcome my opponents and all of their supporters to join me in fighting for what we both believe in so passionately – conservative ideals.”

Whiteford continued, “I’m going to Lansing to fight for lower taxes, less government and more freedom. I believe we need to live within our means and find ways to streamline government to become more efficient so we can do more with what we have. I’m also passionate about finding conservative solutions to find ways to help people who can’t help themselves. From protecting the unborn to victims of domestic violence to mental health issues to human trafficking, there are a number of areas where we need to focus on helping our fellow citizens. Now, it’s on to the General Election. There’s a lot of work yet still to do.”

In recent weeks, Whiteford’s internal numbers mirrored a poll commissioned by Target Insight, Inside Michigan Politics and Grassroots Midwest on Oct. 9th, which showed Whiteford holding a commanding double digit lead over all of her opponents.

Ryan Gilbert, Campaign Manager for Mary Whiteford said, “It’s clear Mary’s message of being a conservative, credible voice for Allegan County resonated with the voters. Over 60 local city and township leaders endorsed Mary because they saw her at their meetings, caring about their issues and trying to help even when she wasn’t running for office. They know she’ll do the hard work. Mary understands Allegan County needs a strong voice in the room when the Agenda is being set in Lansing and someone who will fight for our job providers, taxpayers and those who can’t fight for themselves. Mary’s commitment to lower taxes, less government and more freedom and ability to work with others will help to better serve Allegan County in the future.”

Over the course of the campaign, Mary Whiteford picked up key endorsements from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce. She was also endorsed by the Michigan Farm Bureau, the Michigan Association of Realtors, the Small Business Association of Michigan and over 60 local leaders in the 80th District.

Whiteford is a small business owner, pediatric emergency nurse, volunteers a great deal in the community, mother and grandmother. She operates a financial planning firm with her husband, Kevin.

Whiteford lives in Casco Township with her husband Kevin. They have three adult children and one grandchild.
