Whiteford Files for Re-Election

Signing Deadline Approaches for 80th District

Allegan County – It seems campaign season never ends for the Michigan House of Representatives in Allegan County. Despite her Special Election win with nearly 64% of the vote on March, 8th, Mary Whiteford officially filed for her re-election for the 80th District of the Michigan House of Representatives due to the approaching filing deadline for the 2016 election cycle. Whiteford secured the Republican nomination for the 80th House District besting Cindy Gamrat, Jim Storey and 5 other candidates with 51% of the vote in an 8 person primary.

Whiteford was elected to fill the rest of Cindy Gamrat’s term which expires on December 31, 2016. Michigan Election Law requires candidates interested in running for the November 8, 2016 election be filed no later than 4pm on April 19th to fill the seat for the next two years.

“I was prepared for this,” Whiteford said. “With the timing of the Special Election, we always knew whoever won would have to turn right around and file to run for the seat again. I’m just honored to have been elected to represent the people of Allegan County and look forward to doing a good job for them for a long time.”

Whiteford concluded, “I’m humbled by the support and trust people have placed in me. And, now that I’m here everyday and doing the job for them, I just know it’s the right thing. Serving the constitutents and being able to stand up for lower taxes, less government and more freedom for Allegan County is exactly what I want to do.”

Mary Whiteford is a small business owner, pediatric emergency nurse, volunteers a great deal in the community, mother and grandmother. She operates a financial planning firm with her husband, Kevin.

Whiteford lives in Casco Township with her husband Kevin. They have three adult children and one grandchild.
