FILLMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) – We’re hearing from the woman who lost to state Rep. Cindy Gamrat last year in the race for the 80th House district’s seat.

Mary Whiteford said Tuesday she’ll challenge Gamrat for that seat next year. Whiteford says the sex scandal involving Gamrat and Lapeer’s Todd Courser is a distraction keeping Gamrat from adequately representing the people in the 80th district.

A small business owner and former ER nurse is hoping to unseat State Representative Cindy Gamrat.

Gamrat is at the center of a sex and cover-up scandal in Lansing.

Republican Mary Whiteford says she’s ready to run for Gamrat’s seat, whether she resigns or not. Gamrat has not resigned, but she’s not taken the option off the table either.

“I’ve been mortified to find that the 90,000 people of Allegan County have had no representation. None at all,” Whiteford said.

ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — Mary Whiteford announced she will run for Allegan County’s 80th District seat, currently held by embattled Rep. Cindy Gamrat.

Whiteford made the announcement in a press release Tuesday morning stating that her campaign will be about “solutions not distractions.” She said she is prepared to run in the following election.
